Carving in the Rockies

- Frequently Pondered Questions

What's with the breaks?

We are doing this to combat the disruption of some participants leaving early in the afternoon. This may also help the participants who dread leaving the table because they might miss a step or get behind during the class.  We will ask instructors to please take a break and not teach during these scheduled 15 min. breaks.

What's for lunch?

Generally whatever you bring with you or find in the area around the area.  There are many restaurants within a close distance.

We will also host our annual Hot Dog day on Saturday this year for the cost of donations.

What do I need to bring?

Each class has a list of tools or equipment the instructor feels you'll need for working on the day's project.  In addition to this list you can also bring other tools you feel you may need, a more comfortable chair or cushion (we use folding chairs), etc.  Some may find a battery powered or rechargeable light, or a personal fan handy.

Can I munch and carve?

Why yes you can.  Please be considerate of your fellow carvers while doing so by considering covered drinks and not trying to run a hibachi at the table.  We will have a volunteer in the kitchen to keep everyone supplied in coffee, iced tea and treats.  If you would like to bring snacks to share, please feel free.

Is the space ADA accessible?

The space is on a single level this year and is ADA compliant.

Do I need to take classes all 5 days?

No, you may pick and choose any combo of classes that you wish that fit your desire and schedule.

How big are the classes?

Class size is dictated by the instructor and listed on the class schedule.

I've never carved before, is CITR a good place to start?

Carving in the Rockies is for carvers of all levels.  However, it might not be the place for students who have no carving experience or tools.  Please come to one of our regular Colorado Carvers Club monthly meetings and join us at the New Carvers Table to begin your path to learn woodcarving.

How do I know what skill level is required for each class?

In the class description, the instructor will indicate a certain skill level if they feel their class is not suitable as an all skill level class.

If I don't take a class one day, can I still come to open carve?

Yes!  There will be an Open Carvers Table each day.  You can also come up to join us at lunch time and especially on the Saturday Hot Dog lunch day.

If I don't take a class, can I still participate in the bucket drawings for the woodcarving items?

Yes, you may come on by and purchase tickets for the Bucket Drawing, which ends on Wednesday.  The drawings themselves are usually Tuesday afternoon and if your ticket wins an item, it can be held for you and arrangements will be made for you to pick up the item.

Will there be vendors onsite?

There are no vendors scheduled or expected to be onsite beyond the instructors providing their projects.
